High child mortality in Haiti can be attributed to a high burden of infectious disease, widespread malnutrition and lack of infrastructure enabling access to clean water, sanitation and health services. Léogâne was the epicenter of the 2010 earthquake, and prior to which had one of the highest under-5 mortality rates.
