Yunnan (China), unloading building materials from a wooden ox cart

Yunnan Province, China 1943 - 1945Yankai airbase building materials being unloaded at a housing area still under construction. Many of these rocks were used for the foundations of the buildings. Walls were made of mud bricks, baked in the sun; the roofs covered with kiln-baked tiles. The ox cart has seen many years of use. A bullock pulls the cart. Not everyone had a water buffalo to serve as a beast of burden. Note the muscles on the legs of the man. Chinese people developed muscles from many, many years of carrying heavy loads.GrayscaleBox
