Yunnan (China), man filling a water tank for use in a photo lab

Yunnan Province, China 1943 - 1945This Chinese carried water from a nearby well. It was used for washing processed film. He would carry the water in two large wooden buckets slung from a shoulder pole. One of the buckets is visible as he empties it into a funnel with two spigots attached to a 55 gallon drum split vertically to form a funnel. Another bucket is set on the platform. The water is being poured into two bomb bay tanks which then fed the water by gravity to the photo lab. The tanks were set atop a twelve foot high platform. Roof tiles are visible in the background. It took much water to properly process film and as a necessity he carried water in this manner hour after hour. Hard as the labor was he never complained.GrayscaleBox
