МОЗАЙКА ФРАГМЕНТАРИЗМА ЭССЕ М. МЕТЕРЛИНКА В ЛАТЫШСКОЙ ПРЕССЕ В КОНЦЕ ХIХ И В НАЧАЛЕ ХХ ВЕКА

The fragmentary style of the M. Maeterlinck’s essays as well as the absence of the author’s common philosophical system, portrays the interface of inconceivable aspects of the author’s dynamic thought and existence. The unanswered questions and incompleteness of the thought provides the feasibility of perceiving each essay as an encouragement to the reader’s reflection without systemic involvement. The first collection of M. Maeterlinck’s essays has been published in 1896. In the same year the first introducing article of M. Maeterlinck’s dramaturgy has been published with lot of essay quotation in the Latvian press as well. Subsequently this technique of using lot of essay quotation, has been repeated in almost every article about M. Maeterlinck’s creation. Selected quotations and particular translations of M. Maeterlinck’s essays in the press, firstly, forms an interpretation of Belgian author’s world perception and creation and, secondly, such a selective approach of the translation field, reflects also the hot topics of the Latvian society and literary field. This mosaic creates a peculiar M. Maeterlinck’s image in Latvia, developing in the course of time.Key words: M. Maeterlinck, essay, Latvian press
