Investigation of the Relationship between Human Resource Management and Sustainable Development

In today’s business transactions, human resourceshave the major contribution to achieving organizational success.Merging sustainability into organizational goals and outcomesmakes them the driving force of the organization. This paperviews the relationship between human resource management andsustainable development from two different perspectives; In thefirst approach, human resources are considered as a means ofgaining sustainable development, while in the second approachthe employees’ knowledge, experience, abilities and skills, as theorganizations’ invaluable resources, are valued and wellpreserved. Based on the first viewpoint, human resources mustbe trained and managed to apply energy and resources sparinglyto provide the best environmental, social, and economiccondition. In the latter, however, the best possible environmental,social, and economic conditions are needed to take advantagefrom the employees’ knowledge and skills
