BIENESTAR SUBJETIVO Y APOYO SOCIAL EN EL ADULTO MAYOR (Revisión)

Population aging occurs at accelerated rates in the world. Cuba is located in the Caribbean, one of the most aging regions. This situation imposes the challenge for scientists and politicians to increase the elderly life quality. The assessment of their life quality is made through well-being, so it is important to figure out the factors that underlie it. This research explores the relationship between subjective well-being and social support in the elderly, as this is a facilitating resource for enhancing well-being. The sample was constituted by 100 elderly from "Jimmy Hirtzel" Polyclinic in Bayamo, selected by probabilistic sampling by two-stage conglomerate. The main results support the existence of a predominance of subjective well-being in the gerontologists, as well as the perception of social support received, with an emphasis on functional. A significant correlation was found between both constructs.El envejecimiento poblacional ocurre a ritmos acelerados en el mundo. Cuba está ubicada en el Caribe, una de las regiones más envejecidas. Esta situación impone el reto para cientistas y políticos de incrementar la calidad de vida de los adultos mayores. La valoración sobre su calidad de vida es realizada a través el bienestar, por lo que resulta importante desentrañar los factores que subyacen a este. En esta investigación se explora la relación entre el bienestar subjetivo y el apoyo social en los adultos mayores, por constituir este un recurso facilitador para potenciar el bienestar. La muestra quedó constituida por 100 ancianos del Policlínico “Jimmy Hirtzel” de Bayamo, seleccionados por un muestreo probabilístico por conglomerado bietápico. Los principales resultados avalan la existencia de un predominio del bienestar subjetivo en los gerontes, así como la percepción del apoyo social recibido, con énfasis en el funcional. Se encontró además una correlación significativa entre ambos constructos
