Regionalismo y Economía Social y Solidaria en Sudamérica

The article analyzes the incorporation of the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) agenda in the regional integration processes of UNASUR and MERCOSUR. We ask how the SSE is being used in the effort of regional policy cooperation and what implication this has for the construction of regional governance frameworks for development? The argument is that these regional processes adopt a limited concept of SSE that defines it as a social policy instrument to combat poverty. This sets a limit to the transformative potential of the ESS agenda, which is related to the strengthening of socio-productive practices that offer alternatives to extractivist development as a recurring trend in the region.El artículo analiza la incorporación de una agenda de Economía Social y Solidaria (ESS) en los procesos de la UNASUR y el MERCOSUR. Nos preguntamos: ¿cómo se utiliza la ESS en la cooperación regional y qué implicaciones tiene ello para la construcción de marcos de integración regional para el desarrollo? El argumento es que los procesos regionales adoptan un concepto acotado de la ESS que la define como instrumento de política social para el combate a la pobreza. Esto delimita el potencial transformador de la ESS, el cual está relacionado con el fortalecimiento de prácticas socio-productivas que ofrecen alternativas al extractivismo como tendencia dominante en la región
