In order to improve the germination of somatic embryos of Swietenia macrophylla the effect of the dehydration and the increase of sucrose concentration in culture medium were evaluated. Three times of dehydration (48, 72 and 96 hours) and three sucrose concentration (4.0, 6.0 and 8.0%) were evaluated in independent experiments. After 60 days of culture the number of somatic embryos that remained alive, germinated and showed secondary embryogenesis was quantified.
