This thesis is a collaboration of a written essay and a collection of pottery based upon Anicius Manlius Severinus Boethius and his work The Consolation of Philosophy. Each ceramic piece symbolically represents a main character in Boethius’ book. The personalities and individual qualities of each role were analyzed and used collectively to form five unique vessels. The pieces signify the part each played in reviving the dejected Boethius as well as revealing the keys to true happiness to readers. The essay is divided into five parts, the first of which is the history of Boethius himself, followed by a brief section showing the importance of each chosen character, a small segment on art form and expression, and explanation relating the featu...
