The data are used in the paper entitled “Information Communication Technology development and energy demand in African countries” (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.energy.2019.116192). The data concern 28 African countries for the period 1971-2014. The data on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita (constant 2010 US$), electric power consumption (kWh per capita), energy use (kg of oil equivalent per capita), the number of individuals using the Internet (% of population) and the mobile cellular subscriptions per 100 people are extracted from the World Bank’s World Development Indicators. The consumer price index is sourced from the International Monetary Fund’s World Economic Outlook databases
