The growth of renewable energy in energy production has opened substantial markets for hybrid energy systems. Great potential can be seen especially in integrating conventional engine-driven generators with renewables and energy storages. For example, in islands and remote areas, such hybrid solutions can lead to significant technical, economic and environmental benefits compared to traditional engine power plants in terms of fuel savings, reduced carbon emissions, improved plant efficiency and energy security.
