The concept of an enclosed garden — latin hortus conclusus is a starting point of my PhD thesis. In my theoretical and practical exploration I have used that concept as a key to understanding and interpreting selected phenomena in contemporary culture. For the purposes of my research I have formulated the idea of ‘an open space of meanings’ — the space to which various historical and contemporary, sociological, philosophical and artistic phenomena can be attributed. The concept of enclosed garden is a key and a symbol rather than a reference to only one form of historical gardens.
