Location and Household: Comparing the Effects of Clutter and Life Satisfaction

Little research has been done on the subject of Psychological Home. As an emerging topic that has remained relatively untouched, there are a variety of aspects to explore, including the negative effects of a cluttered home on an individual’s well being. Data was collected through an online survey posted on the Institute of Challenging Disorganization’s website. The data collected contained demographic information as well as 5 separate scales: Place Attachment, Clutter Quality of Life, Satisfaction with Life, Self-Extension Tendency, and Psychological Home. This project provided further insight into the concept of “psychological home” by analyzing geographic region, relationship status, and minors in the household and the relationship that those variables have with life satisfaction and the negative effects of clutter.
