District Six: A Memory, approximately 11\u27 x 16\u27, 2008 I created District Six: A Memory soon after I returned from a 1997 art research trip to South Africa. I reprised this installation for my 70th birthday solo show at the South of Market Cultural Center in San Francisco. District Six addressed the deconstruction of a multicultural neighborhood in Cape Town, South Africa, during apartheid. The white government decided to tear down the diverse neighborhood to make a place for whites only.https://via.library.depaul.edu/oral_his_gallery/1029/thumbnail.jp
