De brujas, putas y locas: narrativas de género y su influencia en el diagnóstico

During the time we have been working in the field of mental health we have observed that the presence of certain diagnoses is more likely depending on the sex of the person who consults. Differential psychology holds that this is due to the difference between the sexes that makes it more likely that a disorder appears more in one sex than in another. From a constructionist position, we maintain that the difference lies in the person who issues the diagnosis due to the gender discourse that exists. In this work, from a small exercise with professionals in training of the Multiprofessional Teaching Unit of Mental Health of Tenerife and a conversation with a group of women with severe mental disorder diagnostic, about gender attribution, we will reflect on the socially constructed character of the gender.Durante el tiempo que llevamos trabajando en el ámbito de salud mental hemos observado que la presencia de determinados diagnósticos es más probable en función del sexo de la persona que consulta. Desde la psicología diferencial se sostiene que esto es debido a la diferencia propia de los sexos que hace más probable que un trastorno aparezca más en un sexo que en otro. Desde una posición construccionista sostenemos que la diferencia está en quien emite el diagnóstico debido al discurso de género que existe. En este trabajo, a partir de un pequeño ejercicio con profesionales en formación de la Unidad Docente Multiprofesional de Salud Mental de Tenerife sobre atribución de género y de una conversación con un grupo de mujeres diagnosticadas de enfermedad mental grave, haremos una reflexión sobre el carácter socialmente construido del género
