This article explores the process of construction of the conceptual, referential and operative schema among the wixáritari population regarding type 2 diabetes mellitus in a community of Jalisco, Mexico, from the appearance of the first symptom to a possible explanation of the disease. This is a qualitative study performed with the phenomenological method using in-depth interviews to collect information. There were seven participants. The data was processed with Bakhtin’s discourse analysis, based on Pichon Rivière’s theory of the link.
