The presence of qualitative research in the classroom, through action research, created the need to help the ninth-grade students of the Institución Educativa Anna Vitiello “Hogar Santa Rosa de Lima”, (from now on: AV-HSRL), to develop their mathematical reasoning competence through the learning of the Pythagorean theorem based on the Van Hiele Model. For this purpose, a diagnostic test, seven class sessions and a final test were designed, all of them meeting the standards established by the Ministry of National Education and implementing some pedagogical strategies based on the 5 levels of geometric thinking developed in the Van Hiele Model.
