Between the XVIth and XVIIth centuries Spain experienced a growing and fertile cultural stream that was compared to the Italian Renaissance, a burst of knowledge and wit that would go down in history as the Golden Age. Among his many illustrious names, Garcilaso Inca de la Vega should be highlighted, as the “mestizo”, arrived to Cordoba from the Indies. His gifts and virtues with the pen are a reason for continued praise and study, even in our days. His intellect and exquisite prose remain imperishable, going over the borders of time. Garcilaso Inca de la Vega is well known as a paradigm of miscegenation, a concept that he himself contributed to spread and introduce in that era of light and splendour, thus favouring the modification and adaptation of the customs and traditions in Cordoba, Spain and America. His spirituality and philosophical transcendence are beyond doubt. Yet, his genealogical heritage has not been deeply inquired. Here we will reveal who was his most direct descendant, his own son: Diego de Vargas, buried in the universal greatness of his biological father and the anonymity that History granted him. Our study is based on the documents of the minutes of the Cabildo de la Mezquita-Cathedral of Cordoba, where Garcilaso Inca de la Vega lies forever.Entre los siglos XVI y XVII España experimentó una creciente y fértil corriente cultural que fue comparada con el Renacimiento italiano, una eclosión de saber e ingenio que pasaría a la historia como el Siglo de Oro. De entre sus muchos nombres ilustres, destacó, entre otros, el mestizo, venido de las Indias a Córdoba, Garcilaso Inca de la Vega. Sus dones y virtudes con la pluma son motivo de continuado elogio y estudio aún en nuestros días. Su intelecto y exquisita prosa permanecen imperecederos, traspasando las fronteras del discurrir del tiempo. A Garcilaso Inca de la Vega se le atribuye ser paradigma del mestizaje, concepto que ayudó a difundir e introducir en aquella época de luz y esplendor, contribuyendo así a modificar y adaptar las costumbres y tradiciones de Córdoba, España y América. Su espiritualidad y trascendencia filosófica no dan lugar a dudas. Sin embargo, poco o nada se ha indagado acerca de su legado genealógico. Aquí revelaremos quién fue su descendiente más directo —su propio hijo Diego de Vargas, sepultado entre la grandeza universal de su padre biológico y el anonimato que le concedió la historia— mediante un estudio verificado y corroborado documentalmente con las actas de la época del Cabildo de la Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba, donde yace eternamente Garcilaso Inca de la Vega
