El rescate de tesoros ocultos: la organización de los mineros para las obras del tajo a cielo abierto en el Cerro de San Pedro Potosí, durante el siglo XVII.

The process of extracting metals from Cerro de San Pedro mines; located in el real de San Luis Potosí Real during its first century of existence was possible due to different factors. In most of them, Spanish authorities had participation. They conceded mine land grants, established the rules for them to be used and tried to create favorable conditions for the functioning of mining centers. The request of the miners to the Crown for a loan in the last decade of XVII century, in order to rescue the treasure from a group of collapsed mines in el Cerro de San Pedro has opened the possibility to analyze the way they organized to carry out common works. This is the aim of the present work which studies the role played by the greater mayors from San Luis Potosí in the organization and the attainment of works like tunnel and open pit mines. Despite the existenceof a substantial number of studies about New Spain mining, that problem has not been addressed. The significance of the participation of these officials consists in the fact that, with those works they tried to keep the mining functioning, which benefitedthe Real Hacienda by the income of taxes from that activityEl proceso de extracción de metales delas minas del Cerro de San Pedrodel realde San Luis Potosí durante su primer siglo de existencia, fue posible gracias a diferentes factores; en la mayoría de ellos tuvieron participación las autoridades españolas. Éstas concedieron mercedes de minas, establecieron las normas para su explotación y procuraron favorecer el funcionamiento de los centros mineros. La petición de un préstamo ala Corona por parte de los mineros en la última década de siglo XVII, con el fin rescatar los tesoros de un grupo de minas derrumbadas, en el Cerro de San Pedro ha abierto la posibilidad de analizar la forma en que se organizaban para la realización de obras en común. Ese es el tema de este trabajo, en el que se estudia el papel que jugaron los alcaldes mayores de San Luis Potosí en la organización y realización de obras como socavones y un tajo a cielo abierto. A pesar de la existencia de un considerable número de estudios sobre la minería novohispana, este es un problema que no ha sido abordado; la importancia de la participación de esos funcionarios, radicó en que, con esas obras procuraban mantener el funcionamiento de la minería, lo cual beneficiaba a la Real Hacienda mediante el ingreso de impuestos por esa actividad
