Caracterización de la violencia en parejas de hombres homosexuales

Violence against homosexual men has been a phenomenon studied in a limited way by the social sciences, thus the scant interest towards sexual minorities and homophobia have caused it to be set aside despite affecting many men. The objective of this research was to perform a review of the scientific and investigative material from 1980 to 2018 about violence in couples of homosexual men. For this review, databases of scientific quality were used, and arbitrated and indexed sources. Among the results it is highlighted that the violence brings physical, social and psychological consequences and in the extreme cases homicide. The victim is afraid to report the abuse to the authorities, due to the fear of being attacked and judged, so they tend to isolate themselves and devalue the abuse. On the other hand, the authorities downplay violence by classifying it as aggression. As a result, most men victims of violence find no other option greater than stay with the couple that mistreats them, society does not currently have shelters or assistance programs that can assist this population and give them necessary tools to be able to leave the violent relationship. Many homosexual men are unable to realize that they are immersed in a violent relationship and don’t visualize the consequences that can be generated. In conclusion, it is necessary to continue promoting the study and intervention in this vulnerable group.La violencia hacia los hombres homosexuales ha sido un fenómeno poco estudiado por las ciencias sociales. Así, el poco interés hacia las minorías sexuales y la homofobia ha provocado que se deje de lado a pesar de afectar a una gran cantidad de hombres. El objetivo de esta investigación fue realizar una revisión del material científico e investigativo desde 1980 hasta 2018 acerca de la violencia en parejas de hombres homosexuales. Para esta revisión se usaron bases de datos de calidad científica, arbitradas e indizadas por fuentes confiables. Entre los resultados obtenidos en dichos artículos destaca que la violencia conlleva consecuencias físicas, sociales y psicológicas y en casos más extremos el homicidio. La víctima tiene miedo de denunciar a las autoridades el abuso debido al temor de ser agredido y juzgado, por lo que tiende a aislarse y desvalorizar el abuso. Por otra parte, las autoridades le restan importancia a la violencia clasificándola como agresión. Como resultado la mayoría de los hombres víctimas de violencia no encuentran otra opción más que quedarse con la pareja que los maltrata. Actualmente la sociedad no cuenta con refugios o programas de ayuda que puedan asistir a esta población y darles herramientas necesarias para poder dejar la relación violenta. Muchos hombres homosexuales son incapaces de darse cuenta de que están inmersos en una relación violenta y no visualizan las consecuencias que se pueden generar. En conclusión, es preciso seguir promoviendo el estudio y la intervención en este grupo vulnerable
