PENGUATAN YOGYAKARTA SEBAGAI KOTA BATIK DUNIA MELALUI RELIEF KALPATARU CANDI PRAMBANAN SEBAGAI MOTIF DENGAN TEKNIK BATIK TULIS ALUSAN WARNA ALAM

This applied research makes a long-sized batik cloth inspired by the relief of Kalpataru depicted in Prambanan Temple. Prambanan Temple is the largest Hinduism temple in Yogyakarta and has become the icon of Yogyakarta as a town of culture. Applying the relief of Kalpataru depicted in Prambanan Temple will strengthen the local genius of exclusively owned by Yogyakarta in fine batik motif locally known as alusan. Therefore, it is necessary to identify the decorative art of Kalpataru depicted in Prambanan Temple through exploration and analysis of data from different sources and archeologists and design of new alternative motifs. It is expected that it will result in new specific ‘alusan’ batik motifs of Yogyakarta with elegant and natural color nuances and acceptable brand in the market. Results of the study may motivate the community to have creative and innovative designs in anticipation to the upcoming competitive market while reserving Yogyakarta as the world’s batik town. The creation of new motifs deriving from the decorative art of Kalpataru is an initial step to explore the local genius of Yogyakarta towards further advancement of culture-based creative motif of batik in Indonesia
