The aim of my dissertation was to study the electoral redistributions of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from a geographical perspective to assess the relative importance of different factors that were taken into account when delineating electoral boundaries. Since responsible government in Victoria began in 1855, I considered this an appropriate date from which to initiate my study. I have restricted discussion to the Victorian Lower House and to a relative brief period,mainly because of the shortage of time
