This study aims to quantify the hydrodynamics of rip currents in a strong wind bay. In doing so, this study will give an insight into surf zone processes in a wave environment that has received minimal attention in the literature. The following chapter will initially present important background into the classification of different wave environments. The basic concepts behind the hydrodynamics of rip currents will then be discussed, with the scope of our current knowledge on the rip current hydrodynamics also presented.
