Rol del psicólogo en cuidados paliativos y aspectos emocionales que inciden en su labor: un estudio de caso

This research, called the role of the psychologist in palliative care and emotional aspects that affect their work: a case study, sought to examine from a humanist perspective, the relationship between the psychologist who works in palliative care, the patient and his family, and from there outline the emotions that are implicit in the professional when intervening in the palliative field. Method: Cross-sectional study, with a qualitative approach, of descriptive scope, in which the in-depth interview applied to a health professional specialized in the field of palliative care was used as an instrument for data collection. General objective: to describe the role of the psychologist in palliative care and the emotional aspects that affect his work. Specific objectives: Explain the role of the psychologist in the field of palliative care, then investigate the relationship psychologist-patient and family, finally analyze the incidence of emotional aspects that mediate the work of the psychologist. Results: The most significant results show the functions performed by the psychologist in the palliative field in the accompaniment of the patient and the family in a chronic, terminal and degenerative condition and the emotions that arise in it when intervening. Discussion: Highlight the sensitivity Vs. Objectivity that transcend in the palliative field, recognize which are the clinico-aesthetic resources with which the psychologist works and how they mediate in supplying the needs of the patient and the family. Conclusions: The most relevant aspects of the study were: understanding those emotional aspects that are mobilized when intervening and identifying the work overload of the professional and the various activities that he does to deal with the emotions that allow him to reconnect with his work.La presente investigación denominada, el rol del psicólogo en cuidados paliativos y aspectos emocionales que inciden en su labor: un estudio de caso pretendió examinar desde una perspectiva humanista, la relación existente entre el psicólogo que labora en cuidados paliativos, el paciente y su familia, y de allí esbozar las emociones que se ven implícitas en el profesional al intervenir en el ámbito paliativo. Método: Estudio transversal, con enfoque cualitativo, de alcance descriptivo, en el que se empleó como instrumento para la recolección de datos la entrevista a profundidad aplicada a un profesional de la salud especialista en el ámbito de cuidados paliativos. Objetivo general: describir el rol del psicólogo en cuidados paliativos y los aspectos emocionales que inciden en su labor. Objetivos específicos: Identificar el rol que tiene el psicólogo en el ámbito de cuidados paliativos, posteriormente indagar la relación psicólogo-paciente y familia, finalmente analizar la incidencia de los aspectos emocionales que median en la labor del psicólogo. Resultados: Los resultados más significativos muestran las funciones que ejerce la psicóloga en el ámbito paliativo dentro del acompañamiento al paciente y la familia en condición crónica, terminal y degenerativa y las emociones que suscitan en ella al momento de intervenir. Discusión: Resaltar la sensibilidad Vs. Objetividad que trascienden en el ámbito paliativo, reconocer cuales son los recursos clínicos con los cuales trabaja la psicóloga y como estos median en suplir las necesidades del paciente y la familia. Conclusiones: Comprender el rol y las funciones que desempeña un psicólogo en esta ocupación: entender los aspectos emocionales tales como; el miedo, la sorpresa, aversión, ira, la alegría y tristeza que se movilizan al intervenir e identificar la sobrecarga laboral del profesional y las diversas actividades que hace para lidiar con las emociones que le permiten reconectarse frente a su trabajo
