As of 2018, there are only standard sized, cast molded hips available to patients requiring hip implants. However, everyone has a unique body, so a cast molded hip implant will fit people differently. Personalized additively manufactured, or 3D-printed, implants created from a patient’s own computerized tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images may provide numerous benefits. A main benefit would be that the implant would provide a personalized fit for the patient, as it would be made from scans of his or her own body.
