Lorain, Ohio is home to one of the most ethnically and racially diverse communities in the United States. Following World War II, hundreds of Puerto Rican men were transported via plane to work at a steel mill for The National Tube Company in 1947. Despite a lack of resources, discrimination from other ethnic groups, and cultural and linguistic barriers, Puerto Rican migrant workers create a politically and economically stable community present in Lorain today. Puerto Rican migrants created a place in Lorain through group activism, religion, and organizing with fellow minority groups.
