Edward Everett Hale wrote this book as a manual to young people in how to live well, out of his experience with a group of thirty-four young people whom he knew well. Many of the chapters came out of articles that Hale had previously written for the magazine Our Young Folks or the paper The Youth\u27s Companion. In this section of the book, Hale discusses the importance of entering society, gives advice concerning the best ways and times to travel, how best to handle attending school and make the most of it, how to make use of vacations from school, how to behave in church, how to interact and live with other young people, and how to interact and live with one\u27s elders.
