Letter from Mary to Mother and Dad - Sunday 3:30 circa 1926

In this letter to her Mother and Father, Mary writes on four pages of College of Wooster stationary in blue ink about the joint YM & YW joint reception, about the football team doing well, writing letters for the Student Volunteer fall retreat, getting her junior portrait taken for the Index and seeing The Son of the Sheik on a double date. Transcription: Sunday 3:30 Dear Mother and Dad: Frederick has just left. He’s been here since noon dinner. We’ve been talking and catching up here on the porch – Boots, Fred and I. Fred is so funny. You should have seen Fred last night at the YW. & Y.M joint reception. I was so proud of him. The gym as decorated to look like an old Colonial estate. The stage setting was the porch of the colonial home and of course the actors. ___________________________________________ The above was started the first week we were at school - so will just continue. Just came up stairs [sic] from a parlor date even tho [sic] it is only 8:00 – Leland and Mary and Bob and I have been singing for the past hour. Then I played my saw too. Leland & Mary have gone down town to mail some letters and I came up stairs to write some letters. Wrote 13 yesterday for this Student Volunteer Fall Retreat at Oberlin next weekend. Can you imagine I have to miss home coming play and Foot ball [sic] game. Be sure and send me my out of town permission. So far foot ball [sic]scores have been grand. Wooster 13 Ashland 0 Wooster 7 Case 0 Fred went to Cleveland Friday night with another freshman fellow on a milk truck. He is taking products for Coach on the side lines. I suppose he’ll tell you all about it. We enjoyed your special so much. Dad and you should have seen how proud Esther was that it was sent to her – she says – Yes – dad scolds me the most and bet he misses me the most too. She appreciates your attention so much. Made the best looking poster for C.E. this morning on sudden inspiration. It’s a tropical scene in greys and black. My paints are so handy. Bought a bunch of art paper also and am really enjoying my poster work. Did you get the check I sent you for the show cord paints? Leland and another girl led C.E. tonite. [sic] Mary leads next Sunday night. She also has charge of a [unclear] Geneva [/unclear] meeting at Y.W. this coming Wednesday. I have some important tasks this weekend at the retreat – presenting finances and some other things. Am awfully busy must go down town tomorrow get some printing done and also my picture taken for the Junior Section of the index. Last night (Sat night) the four of us had a double date. Went to see “The Son of the Sheik”. It was dumb. Then 5 of the Miller Manor bunch came up and stayed all night with us. Scud slept with me and all but three of us are gone this weekend so the rest had single cots to themselves. College is wonderful this year! Busy every minute as usual. Been learning lots of things about life - I mean they are [unclear] looming [/unclear] up a little more distinctly then before. Am so glad you are much better. Scuds folks have been ill, too, and she is quite worried. They have lomarin paisie – She wired home last night.
