The Effects of Adolescent Bullying on Adult Mental Health

This study aims to provide a connection between adolescence bully experiences and the impact of such experiences on the development adult mental health, specifically focused on social anxiety. Four questionnaires were used in order to collect data necessary to analyze the relationship between the bullying that occurred in primary and secondary school and the influence those experiences had on the current mental health of the participant. The questionnaires used included the Retrospective Bullying Questionnaire, the Penn State Worry Questionnaire (PSWQ), the Social Anxiety Questionnaire for Adults (SAQ-A30), and the Eight-Item Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D). All three questionnaires have significant effects of bully group (never bullied, only bullied in primary school, only bullied in secondary school, and bullied in both primary and secondary school) and the relationship those had with anxiety and other related problems. With the findings of this study, it is important to begin to associate bully-attacks as potential threats to the future mental health of the victim
