This print, depicting the plague of frogs from the book of Exodus in the Bible, was made by a copper plate etching process. Copper plates were covered with a resist (asphaltum varnish), the design traced on, then scribed through the resist. The copper plate was then placed in an acid bath to etch the lines. The resist was removed, plate polished, inked and heated before being wiped and placed on the press bed. Dampened etching paper was then placed over the plate and rolled through the press. Joan M.
