This thesis explores the effects of urban gardening programs on the community in which they exist using a qualitative research method. Current literature relating to the topic is explored through discussions and summaries that expose the differing opinion on the effects of gardening programs on urban dwellers. Classical sociological theories form the foundation fr0m which the urban personality is analyzed. The study takes place at an urban community garden in, the South Bronx, New York. The sample consists ,of volunteers and leaders of organizations that were fundamental in the development of the community garden.
