Prior to World War II, there were no formal training programs in Nebraska for school psychologists. Instead, itinerant psychologists such as George Kelly and T. Ernest Newland traveled the rural areas of the country providing psychological services, educational evaluations, and professional consultation to schools, children, and parents (Helge, 1985)
