The literacy rate of women in Afghanistan is extremely low. There are many factors responsible for it, but in this paper, the argument is that persistent conflict has been the major cause of it. Lack of security and stability has not only slowed education of Afghans in general but also has widened the gap between education among men and women. Most of the studies that I looked at during this research supported this argument. Factors like culture, traditions, conservatism, patriarchy and poverty have an effect, but wars and instability causes these factors to occur simultaneously and multiply their magnitude.
