Learning is produced in a context of many variables. For generations, educators have sought to identify the complex of variables that make for academic success. Among the variables that contribute to student learning are, the quality of instruction, the relationship of the student to others in the social environment, and the skills of the people responsible for instruction. (Frederick & Walberg, 1980). Invariably one of the additional variables operating is time, time spent in homework on a lesson, during a school year, or in a lifetime of schooling.
