Her Legacy Lives On: How Princess Diana Breathed New Life Into the British Monarchy Through Her Humanitarian Efforts

Princess Diana of Wales was killed tragically twenty years ago at the age of 36. At the time of her death the Princess was involved in numerous charitable causes, comforting the sick and dying every chance she got. After she was rocketed into unimaginable fame with her marriage to Prince Charles, Diana decided to use her power for good, and she did exactly that with her humanitarian work. As a result, her outreach touched millions, and transformed the way the world looked at the British Monarchy. The Monarchy was long known as a stuffy regime only in place for the purpose of politics. Diana brought the Monarchy to the people, moving past the politics, and using her humanitarian efforts to bring awareness to issues like AIDS, Leprosy, and the land mine crisis in Angola. In her work, she was able to reach millions of people. Diana was the youthful image the Monarchy had been lacking for years, and people around Britain became interested in their government again. This paper aims to discuss the charitable duties Diana was so passionately involved with throughout her time as the Princess of Wales. In addition, I hope to explore how, through her work, she influenced people in her own country and around the world, and how her touch is felt two decades after her death
