Abstract: Coagulopathy in trauma patients occurs due to tissue injury, hemodilution (dilution of hematocrit and clotting factors), infusion of hypo-coagulable blood products (e.g., packed red blood cells), acidosis, hypothermia, continued blood loss, and depletion of clotting factors. The onset of coagulopathy begins with the initial tissue injury and evolves rapidly. Many factors need consideration when determining resuscitative treatment for the trauma victim. These factors include the amount of time for extraction from the field, transport time to a trauma center, associated weather, and treatment provided in route.
