University-community collaboration has become increasingly prevalent in recent years as higher education reexamines its roles and responsibilities within the larger society. While partnerships provide tremendous benefits to both sides, they can be a source of frustration and disappointment. This paper discusses various types of university-community partnerships and provides suggestions for increasing their sustainability. The author describes the evolution of a partnership between the University of Georgia School of Social Work and the Garnett Ridge community in Athens, Georgia.
