Cabinet card photo of the Robert E. Lee mausoleum, Lexington, Va., 1897. His final resting place is in the lower level of the Lee Chapel on the campus of Washington & Lee University, Lexington, Va. The recumbent statue in the photo was executed by Edward Valentine in 1875. Cabinet cards replaced the CDV (carte-de-visite) in the popular home photo album, and were widely popular in the 1880’s and 1890’s.
