Bacterial antibiotic resistance is a preeminent threat to the heath and welfare of humanity. This work aims to add mechanistic understanding of antibiotic resistance by examining the effects of argyrin B on a fundamentally conserved translation factor and GTPase, elongation factor-G. EF-G is a crucial facilitator in bacteria successfully synthesizing proteins. By examining the binding and structural effects of argyrin B on an E. coli derived EF-G we hope to elucidate the mechanism of this antibiotic and its overall effect on the GTPase.
