One Year: Eat, Clown, Pound, Potato, Pick, Weave, and Sow

From the Amazon to the Andes, Adventure Learning Grant recipients, Arcadia Trueheart and Liliana Morgan, spent a year exploring their most burning questions through the lens of art and agriculture respectively. How does one engage in the world through questions? They will share stories of vulnerability, wonder, friendship, loneliness, and trust and invite the audience to explore how we can begin to connect with one another by listening and sharing. Arcadia Trueheart will graduate from Fairhaven College in Spring 2015 with a concentration in Creative and Cultural Expression. She is passionate about the arts as a form of communication, whether through storytelling, creative writing, collaborative theater, or visual arts. Her experience teaching circus skills, visual arts, and theater to children in the US and Guatemala informed her interest in studying how the arts affect communication between different generations in Bolivia. Through the Adventure Learning Grant, Arcadia was able to observe and participate in activist theater movements as well as traditional weaving and folk dance. She has returned with more questions than ever about creativity, purpose, and connection and is eager to continue exploring this subject within the context of the US.Liliana Morgan is a Fairhaven student focusing on agricultural biodiversity, rural livelihoods, and community resilience. In preparation for her time with the Adventure Learning Grant, Liliana did a year-long internship at Cloud Mountain Farm Center. This opportunity working in a full-time farming position and connecting with the amazing network of farmers in Whatcom County helped give Liliana a foundation for communicating with farmers abroad. Since returning this past fall, Liliana has begun coordinating WWU\u27s Outback Farm, working to engage students and community members in hands-on learning opportunities surrounding small-scale farming and sustainable living
