John William Christensen was born in Roselawn, Indiana, on March 14, 1914. After graduating from Hammond High School in 1931, where he was a member of the Indiana All-State Debate Team, he enrolled at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. He graduated from DePauw in 1935 and the studied accounting with the General Electric Corporation. In 1936 he decided accounting wasn’t in his future and enroll at the Indiana University School of Law.
