Looking south, this aerial photograph show’s Miami Beach’s Oceanfront in the late 1970’s. Clearly visible is the string of hotels in the style now known as Miami Modernist Architecture (MiMo) along Collins Ave. In the late 2000’s preservationists began advocating for these structures to be saved, although modern building codes allow for much taller and profitable structures. The style originated in the post-war era when Miami Beach saw an influx of visitors with disposable income looking to visit a place that shared their optimistic view of the future.https://digitalcommons.ric.edu/smolski_images/1431/thumbnail.jp
