Cemetery and Salisbury Cathedral Spire

The Salisbury Cathedral\u27s main body was built in 38 years, from 1220 to 1258, being the only English medieval cathedral to be completed in a single generation and in one style. Materials for the cathedral came, partially, from the demolition of the old cathedral at Old Sarum in 1231. Construction on the spire began in 1334. The late style of the upper part of the tower was conceived by Richard of Farleigh and Bishop Wyvil, independent of the original builders of the cathedral. The tallest spire in Britain has never stood perpendicular and presently tilts 27 inches to the southeast.
