This research paper examines the use of Private Military Companies contracted by the US Military during the 1980’s. Two case studies are reviewed within this period, US involvement in Colombia particular the “War on Drugs” and US covert support of the Contra War in Nicaragua. The foreign policy of President Ronald Reagan will be put in contrast to his predecessor Jimmy Carter. The case studies introduced at the beginning of the project are used as determining factors in understanding how Reagan\u27s foreign policy in Colombia and Nicaragua sparked the usage of PMC’s by the US military and why the outsourcing of military services has expanded
