Drawing on ethnographic data collected at Out Recovery, a residential LGBT addiction and mental health treatment program, this project examines how changes in the healthcare market, developments in the brain sciences and technologies of addiction treatment, as well as strategies and priorities of the LGBT community have converged to reshape the terms and stakes of how addiction and sexuality are governed in the contemporary U.S. By shifting our focus to organizational and administrative modes of governance, this paper seeks to deepen and contribute to our understanding of how contemporary modes of power are rapidly changing the way institutions, authorities and people seek to manage deviance by managing each other
