In many ways this project evolved from a single image of my mother. From the moment I discovered the Ektachrome slide in an old box of photographs I was enchanted by its peculiar beauty and strange sense of mystery. In the following months I could not shake the imprint it had left on my mind and I found myself continually coming back to it, trying to dissect it in different ways and trying to make sense of what was so magical to me about the image. I eventually came to realize that I was struck by its physicality. I could hold it in my hand; I could see the dust collecting on it.
