This project examines various depictions of Mexican culture within American tourist environments, specifically, South of the Border in Dillon, South Carolina and the Mexico Pavilion at Disney World’s EPCOT Center. By first tracing the history of roadside attractions in the United States the project investigates the commercial icons utilized at these sites and surveys their effect on American perceptions of Mexican culture. Each site is respectively situated in a modern and postmodern context in terms of their architectural construction and aims at authenticity
