Until recently, evidence for the occupation of Touraine towards the end of the Iron Age was nearly completely unrecognized. Today, by combining the increasing number of discoveries made through rescue archaeology with renewed study of earlier local records, it is possible to consider the settlement evidence at the scale of the civitas. Different types of settlement site are distributed around the plateau of Les Châtelliers at Amboise, which exhibits the characteristics of a tribal capital.
