Construction of a general index of the trend of civil service pay. Civil service pay, paradoxically enough, is less well known than pay in the private sector. The complicated methods of remunerating officials made it essential to work out a new index of civil service pay. In practice, the indexes of trend previously published for officials went solely on grade and disregarded any modifications in remuneration connected with the post held. Moreover, they looked solely at a few special cases, not very representative of the whole. Finally, calculated on the theoretical example of an official with no dependent children, living in Paris, they left out of account the important changes which might be made by the family increments for dependents ...
