A study of completeness : nominal complements, complement clauses and transitivity. In a predicate, a verb may be completed by a noun phrase (nominal complementation) or by a complement clause (clausal complementation). Do these two types of verbal complementation correspond to the same sort of completeness ? Is the transitive relationship between a subject and an object through the verb constructed in the same manner in all types of complementation and in all types of complement clauses ? Clausal complementation raises the question of transitivity not in a purely syntactic perspective but in terms of location of contents.
